Welcome to our GETLIN site. GETLIN, or the Global Effective Teaching and Learning Network, is an international network hosted by the Department of Teacher Education, University of Groningen, The Netherlands. GETLIN strives to:

  • advance knowledge about effective teaching and learning internationally.

  • stimulate global scholarly discussion about effective teaching and learning.

  • promote the use of research findings to improve educational theories and practices internationally.

GETLIN was born as a product of two projects: The International Comparative Analysis of Learning and Teaching 3 (ICALT3) and the Differentiation project of the University of Groningen.

ICALT 3

The ICALT3 project is a research project on teaching quality from an international perspective. In this project, researchers from different countries and education systems collaborate to study the (development of) teaching quality around the world.

Differentiation

Within GETLIN, one of the teaching quality domains of interest is differentiation, which refers to the degree to which teachers adapt their teaching to relevant differences between students. Differentiation can be applied to maximize the learning potential of students with varying characteristics.

GETLIN aims to provide insight into the different domains of teaching practices including issues related to, among others, measurements, antecedents, correlates, characteristics, and the relationship with student learning and outcomes. Here you will find information about these topics, insights from around the world and suggestions for effective teaching combined with ‘best practice’ examples.
